10 Things to Avoid Doing on Vacation
If you’re on vacation, then it typically means that you’re trying to enjoy some downtime. Of course, some people will call it their “paid time off,” or they simply call it a trip to nowhere. (Everyone has a vacation, even if they’re not working.) Although, in spite of the semantics, most people would consider this their time to relax (rest & relaxation). This may not always be what happens, but there’s no denying that it should be taken advantage of, at least during most of our time. However, some people never get to enjoy themselves, so why not get started while you can. It’s never too late for that, right? In fact, these are the 10 things that you avoid doing during your vacation time. And you will not regret it, hopefully!
10 Things to Avoid Doing on Vacation
1. Overwork
Although it may seem rather unbelievable, there are actually some people out there who work while they’re on vacation. In fact, there’s no doubt that this is a part of just about everyone’s plan, at least depending on our specific job(s). However, does this necessarily make your vacation a problem or not a vacation? Well, it may seem to defeat the point of being on a vacation, but it’s still there for those who wish to spend their days off with some reason. Also, other than looking at this as a “deep” statement, we should also understand the practicality of it. While some people are working, which makes sense, others are doing some work! Although, in the end, doing work during free time is very, very reasonable.

2. Overeat
If you want to avoid becoming overweight, then you’re going to have to keep yourself in shape. However, this seems rather obvious, correct? Well, it obviously is, and to avoid coming back with extra loads on your shoulder, you should avoid the calories. In fact, you should avoid further consumption of food if at all possible. It’s difficult; however, it’s up for you to decide what you want to do for your diet and/or exercise. The problem for most people is that they figure that they’ll simple do what they do while they’re working. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always show up on the radar, and the person proceeds to overeat. This is very common, and the fact that our free time ends up taking a lot longer is evidence.

3. Oversleep
While this turns more into a health article, we should also take a careful look at our willingness to sleep — the relaxing part of vacations. Afterall, sleep is a vital part of our daily lives, and even attempting to deprive ourselves of it is essentially blasphemous. (No one should ever go without a decent amount of sleep!) However, even if we want to sleep in and make up for some sleep, oversleeping can create a lot of issues (capsizing our life with lethargy). This, in fact, is part of your “good habit” that you want to avoid indulging in too much. Although, when we’re talking about making sure to get enough sleep, there’s no overdoing what we call “catching up.” Just be sure to understand that change can be difficult!

4. Overthink
The problem with conditioning comes down to our abilities to change ourselves (and our habits/actions) on a dime. Of course, doing this often requires some kind of harsh reconditioning routine, especially if we’re needing to change fast; this is always the case. Although, if we’re to do this properly, then we must condition ourselves to avoid issues with stress and anxiety, i.e., overthinking. However, this dynamic doesn’t always work, and keeping our wits about us certainly makes the difference. In fact, not only will you be able to keep a clear head, but you’ll also be using your free time wisely. “How do we do this?” you ask. Well, it comes down to practicing your abilities to moderate yourself without a problem.

5. Underperform
To finetune this list just a little bit more, I should also list how we can underperform our duties. In fact, there’s reason to bring up our ability to underutilize our time when we are, essentially, free. There is always room to improve; however, it doesn’t mean that we have to create some kind of regime for ourselves. Although, even with that in mind, this is essentially the point of this entire article — our ability to improve ourselves. Furthermore, we need to avoid underperforming for the sake of our motivation, our will to encourage or drive ourselves and others. We also want to be sure that we do something to maintain a certain threshold of motivation, including our ability to keep our vices at the door.

6. Overtravel
Although a vacation does not necessarily mean that you will travel, the terms are often interchangeable (to some degree) — the words (associations) are synonymous. However, there are a large portion of people who enjoy their time at home without the worries of a trip (or travel) on their mind. When this happens to be the case though, we go all-in, mostly. In fact, a so-called vacation is about not working, but travel is a form of relaxation that people enjoy (even as a dopamine booster). Although, it does depend on the person and what they choose to do with their time. Although, it doesn’t matter if it’s their paid time off or not, as people will choose as they will — what they end up seeing is mostly subjective.

7. Becoming Sick
Even though the last place you should become sick is at work, you should also avoid becoming sick on vacation. In fact, your vacation is actually important, and who wishes to have their free time destroyed with sickness. It’s obviously not up to you if you become sick, at least when speaking generally; however, you certainly have ways of preventing yourself from falling into a fever or even worse. There’s also reason for you to believe that this sickness can carry over into your work time. Although, with that in mind, this ultimately means that you want to avoid accommodating yourself with various strangers. (All of us understand that irresponsibility can go hand-in-hand with our vacation time.) It’s smart!

8. Party Hard
Along with our ability to stay active, we should avoid indulging in lethargy or even partying far too much. Of course, this is fairly obvious, but far too many people are simply oblivious. They’ll decide that they deserve a break, and then, afterwards, they’ll continue to enable themselves towards the doors of oblivion. Unfortunately, to many people, our abilities to understand what too much is becomes blurred and somewhat obscure. PTO (party to oblivion) even ends up taking on an entirely different meaning, and the “arbitrary” lines between good and bad behavior become finer and finer. Although, in the end, we should consider our habits and how to make them better or maintain them with more ease.

9. Too Much Sex
Well, we’ve all been there (with too much sex), but who’s to say that what we ended up doing was a good thing. There are obvious repercussions, and the amount of times that we do this, as well as the volume, can make us susceptible to disease. It’s not only that, but the fact that we can end up causing heartbreak to someone else is enough to avoid the honey spoon. Also, just be aware of the people whom fall victim to this hedonistic vice, as they do it on a regular basis. It’s not the wisest thing to do — STDs and drama — with your time, unless it’s with someone you are already romantically involved with. Although, there’s always the chance that you can overdo this as well, which is discouraging.

10. Too Few Chores
When we’re on vacation, at least from work (be it short or long), we often find ourselves partaking in other tasks. Of course, this can range from cleaning the house to mowing the lawn — this may or may not be a regular occurrence! If we want to take this even further though, then we can understand how keeping ourselves busy with work is important. We do not have to overdo it; however, partaking in some chores is just enough to keep us encouraged. After all, motivation is key, but losing ourselves to chores can also be a problem. In fact, there’s obvious room for improvement, and necessity is where this lies! Yes, if there’s something that we should do, then we might as well moderate it by keeping it simple.

Ending
As you can hopefully see, there are plenty of ways that we can experiment with our time. Although, we should also consider how we allow ourselves to self-destruct during this time. Without moderation, there are far too many ways that we can fail ourselves or even other people. Experimenting too much with your schedule is never recommended, as it creates too much change way too fast. In all honesty though, you can obviously over and underdo many of the things listed here. In this case, moderation is key, at least to some degree; however, this doesn’t enable you to do everything. Of course, there are limits, but it always takes some work while trying to figure out what you should do while you’re on your vacation.
