The 10 Worst Things About Countries
Every country has it’s problems, but there are some countries that have it worse. Most countries try to find ways to separate themselves from the bunch, but this only makes them more normal. This average sensibility is there to help isolate themselves in the sense and for the sake of uniqueness and pride. We all end up riding this coattail, aware or not, in spite of logic and for the sake of a stubborn need for approval. These are the 10 worst things about countries.
—
There is more than a country that makes a person geographically-based. It should also be noted that geography almost always comes into play, but it is not the only way we set ourselves apart. It generally boils down to the selfish need in everyone to glorify themselves. While we cannot see beyond this, we can always perceive a reason to be better. Even then, this better we can become is never truly better, even if it is all we have.
—
It is no secret that the French are trying to preserve their language and culture by pushing English words out of their language. Many may be unaware of how racist the Italians still are, even though they have been shat on for such needless behavior. For those who search online, you may find a strong sense of German superiority (inferiority complex) still at helm among online commenters. It may even be noticed that many people think Americans dumb and Africans irrelevant, at least to the uneducated.
—
While it is no mystery that most of these listed items have something to do with another, they all deserve a place on this list. This list cannot be applied to every single country perse, but every country exhibits at least most of these a little bit. This is what we will be going into next, so be prepared to understand. These are the 10 ways countries isolate themselves.
The 10 Worst Things About Countries
1. Nationalism
Some countries like to set themselves apart with an excessive sense of self-importance and nationalism. Nationalism is an excessive pious and pride generally gained and felt through senseless and selfish means of union. All countries do it, but not all of them do it with a needless endurance. This sense of pride can lead to an assortment of problems, as this nationalism can be applied to other items on this list.
—
Other problems like racism can be reason for this nationalism, but strangely enough, the nationalism often comes first. Even though it serves no real function, people can see it as useful for rally and times of war. It just so happened to carry over into the casual and modern-day lives of humans as a meritorious and just cause. Some countries have more of this, and it varies in terms of reasons for it.
—
A good example of this is Germany in the 1930s and 1940s, where financial insecurity lead to a state of envy and disarray. The attitude carries over today in spite of and because of this effect and can even be caused by insecurity. While the United States claims the title today, the inherent insecurity lacks the incessant drive and insecurity it had before. Even Koreans and the Japanese have some thoughtless pride in the somewhat reasonable homogeneity.
—
This can go back ages, even as far back as the Roman Empire, where there was an endless need for placement in civilization. If not, there was wars of displacement and conquest to prove the superiority of this one society. While this superiority had more “reason” back then, it certainly came with a cost, especially to the modern day. Insecurity can create conflict, and this conflict can create nationalism and vice versa. There are no countries lacking in pride, it is just a matter of the expectation of them being known for it.
The 10 Worst Things About Countries
2. Racism
Most countries define themselves by a strict set of rules. Many of these rules are similarly shared among other countries, including law and order. The problem with many of these countries is that these rules are not evenly applied. How these rules are applied is another difference in many of these countries, especially the ones without democracy. Some places like to subvert certain rules, and in others, it is strictly a part of the undermining culture.
—
While things should never work in these extremes, some places apply the worst extreme possible. Racism may not be proactive on the part of every single person, but the country as a whole creates and endorses it. If this is not seen as being compliant, then nothing really is. Everyone is a culprit to some degree, but this depends on misguided personal definition and other important factors.
—
Racism is often displayed as a raging issue that pervades the entirety of a culture. Many countries are defined by a cultural heritage, and this is a cause and effect of racism. Some countries are actively defending this, an others want to maintain what’s left of their so-called culture. In the end, they end up making their culture more about preservation than anything else. Not unlike nationalism, it creates conflict more than it serves a reasonable function without serious fault.
—
Although I can understand that racism is bad, there is reason to believe that a culture can pervert another. If someone finds issue with a culture and not the color of someone’s skin, then this is not racism. Unfortunately, since everyone is trying to live in a black and white world, the colors become more disparate and defensive. At this point, there are people “racist” against their own “race,” at least according to their silly definitions.
The 10 Worst Things About Countries
3. Militarism
Militarism can become a part of a country’s culture over time. If this is what they defined themselves by before, it can become more deeply imbedded. Be it a force they had to deal with to protect their country from invaders or to invade others themselves. The military has always been an active part of a nation-state.
—
Every city-state had it in the past, and it was there to help “protect” those it housed from the outside world. The problem is that this outside world grew smaller through the threat given by these natural protectors. In all, the military is a necessary evil, but it only seems this way to those with a need for more. In times of war, citizens choose to display a sense of military might. People will share their differences, even among those who are within the same country.
—
Although something like war hides behind the careless sterileness of strategy, many places lack it, i.e., African nations. There is no doubting that the aspects of a military lead to thoughts of war, futility, and imposition. While humans become lost in folly and self-actualization, they ignore the bigger picture of deserve, harm, and immunity. This begins to erode society in ways unspeakable to the truth and justice.
—
While there are reasons to think that some sense of military action is needed, it becomes negating. To think of the world as a singular state seems farfetched, but it is only impractical in theory. It tends to be an unfortunate truth of the here and now and humanity to be unwilling to accept it. While it seems quite insane to jump to a one-world government, it is not so abashedly clear. It is the limitations of humanity that make it practically and theoretically impossible.
The 10 Worst Things About Countries
4. Intelligence
While a lot of this boils down to education and culture, it deserves it’s own place on this list. Many people from certain countries like to ride the coattails of their country rather than prove themselves. They may find that their perception and motivation comes from the outside world and certain past accomplishments. Although someone else accomplished this, they can at least feel good about themselves.
—
This insecurity carried over to other generations, even if there was something to be proud of before. Beyond this, a sense of entitlement comes from the ease of having nothing to prove in a decent culture. If you have seen anything online in a comment section, you will often see a lot of pointed and biased takes. It should be seen as nothing but inconsequential, but even this small trespass can turn something big.
—
There are those who give little in the way credit while deliberately crapping on another country. It may come down to America vs. Europe or how Germans always have the smartest people. There is also a a common belief or cliché that Asians are always the smartest, at least when they are from Asia. For this example, it comes down to discipline taking over for intelligence, making the most of what is there. Even if it is anecdote, it breathes larger into the bigger issue it actually is.
—
While there is nothing wrong with spotting issues and constructive criticism, it never ends there. The fact that we all almost feel a need to be a country rather than a human race is the big problem. This attitude only serves to perpetuate it under the guide of senseless but harmless fun. Even if it is practical, it shows just how little we have proven ourselves as a whole, including and especially the smart ones. To this end, real-world logic barely enters the ring when it actually matters.
The 10 Worst Things About Countries
5. Cuisine
While cuisine sounds a lot like a cultural phenomena, it deserves a depth of it’s own on this list. Cuisine is one of those things that some cultures define themselves by. Some places are known for their good food, and others are known for how bad their food is. There are countries on this list that have some great cuisine, but no one has ever heard of it. If people have, they do not know where it came from, but they know it is good. Some people can even mistake a cuisine for a culture it does not belong to.
—
Regardless of this, there is still a strong sense of culture surrounded by at least some form of cuisine. Even in places you may have not heard of, there is still something there; the country still takes some sort of pride in the dishes they make as food for consumption. If we are going to have a competition over food, it should at least be done properly. To start, as long as the food is fresh, you are doing good. If you have fresh food but the dishes suck, then that ultimately makes it a failure.
—
While food is important, people tend to glorify it to a means of justification beyond reason. Trying to share your culture and food is one thing, but feeling a sense of superiority or inferiority because of it is stupid. Instead of sharing what makes it so good, people tend to downplay how a dish can evolve elsewhere. It all boils down to jealous secrecy and condescension among everyone involved. It even becomes worse when people like to claim that it is their country. The fact remains that it is simple a culture you were brought up in, but this is just semantics.
—
Just because a food is generally said to be better, does not mean that it serves as a reasonable totem for success. There are even places that decide to eat every animal at their disposal. If not, the poor animal will be used as livestock in a prison to create more of this problem. Some cultures do it better, but the real problem is never being resolved in the right way. Thailand is a good example, as most of their diet consists of vegetables, even if it is religiously guided. While this is not by all means bad, it certainly can be done a lot better.
The 10 Worst Things About Countries
6. Language
Every country has a language, but some countries are using a language that originated somewhere else. While humans like to separate themselves through acts of stupidity based on things like language, there is little to set them all apart. All language does is give us similar ways of communicating the same ideas slightly differently. It is more of an effect in origin, but the small differences can lead to very “hypothetically” different outcomes.
—
The evolution of language is not all that difficult to figure out, and learning one can be easy. Afterall, it is no doubt that language has been one of those things that sets us apart, at least in theory. Nevertheless, it just happens to be a side-effect and cause of language that people find segregation and pride in. While a practical defense of language can make sense, it does not always make it indefensible. If a decent culture is being forced to adhere, then the question becomes harder to answer. Even if the answer is what we are looking for, what happens is more important and foolproof.
—
Some people even think that knowing a few languages means that you are smart. While there is some element of learning languages that gives us smartness via multitasking, it typically comes exaggerated from a sense of necessity. This is not to say that some people do not just spend all day simply learning a language, but this prevents having at true fluency in one specific language.
—
Some countries have the same alphabet, and others use the same language. Certain alphabets home more languages that have so much in common that they should have been considered dialects. The French even want to curtail their language from the effect of others while still riding high as multilinguals. In the end, it is better to know one language, especially if we should all be speaking the same one.
The 10 Worst Things About Countries
7. Education
Education is one of those things that a country does and almost should take some pride in. The life of a student is crucial, but what they are learning is the most important part. If the teaching is not institutionalized, then there is not much to take credit for. The United States educational system has the best schools in the world, but the overall educational system is lacking. If you can even get into an Ivy League school, you will have your work cut out for you. You may be better off going to a country like Switzerland, which has an overall better education system. Although the Asians are the smartest, it strictly comes from necessity to leave and discipline.
—
Even if homeschooling were more of a thing, it would still not be the same as going to some lousy university. While the education of a nation relies on this and is important as a whole, it still proves little necessity for the one learning. If anything education at a learning facility can often become ruinous to the one who decided to partake in the system. Although some educational systems are better than others, no one is necessarily void of compromise or without fault. There is also not a single place that is head and shoulders above the best, even with so many countries struggling with poverty. It depends on what is being taught, but this is mostly about the college or school.
—
If there were no problems, then every place would prove to be the best. The point being that among the world stage, there is first world schooling and third world schooling. Even though some places think they do best, they’re schooling may be the least functional. While it matters, it is not always as it seems and serves little to be backed up by incoherent nonsense. Unfortunately, not much of anything is truly in our control, including the pride taken from a good grade. Thankfully, this is something that can change with the right kind of learning without indoctrination. It should also be noted that some of the smartest people taught themselves or went to a bad school.
The 10 Worst Things About Countries
8. Organization
The ways that a country decides to organize in terms of becoming a group effort nationally and internationally are important. If we are not looking at obligatory extremes here, then it provides a functional purpose. Even then, there is probably a need for organization and organizations, but it still has downsides.
—
The entire earth is still guided by the first-world, and many countries have the privilege of being a part of some kind of international union. This is the half-assed way of pretending to be closer to a one-world government. Even if this should be good enough for now, the reasons many cultures have for avoiding it are dumb. There are unions for workers and even politicians, and then there are trade unions among countries.
—
Beyond this, there are organizations like WHO that try to take the world’s best scientists a platform for health and safety information. If we are talking about an alliance, there was an alliance back in the early 1900s between two sides of a worldwide conflict. This long-standing alliance is where there were opposite sides of a war that seemingly continued differently into World War 2. Nowadays, we have NATO and even the European Union to thank for at least giving it a shot. The states of the United States became a whole, even if the prospect of separation was secondary.
—
If you avoid scrutinizing detail, then just about anything can be broken down. You can even break it down to a more personal level, but this makes the concept of organization seem even more flawed. Even then, organization has it’s good sides, but it is ultimately a means of pride and separation through perceived necessity.
The 10 Worst Things About Countries
9. Culture and Heritage
Many people say that diversity is the spice of life, but this is really not that simple. While some people have a specific descent, their heritage should barely matter. Some places like in East Asia, there is a far more homogenous population. This essentially means that there are more people within the same ethnic group there per capita. While mixing can happen, there is barely any population there outside of the natives. This comes down to the culture being so different than the norm, even if Japan comes close to being a Western nation. While everything on this list is essentially culture, culture is informed by heritage.
—
Overall, places in Asia are highly known for this, but some places like America are known for the exact opposite. Even though certain countries house minority groups, there is still a majority owned by a single ethnic group. This can lead to, and again, cause problems of racism, war, and nationalism. For example, countries in Europe are known for their geography and placement next to Asia. Most of the population in each country is homogenous (at least according to birth), but others certainly keep to their own more so.
—
Being among other nations, it is hard to avoid crossing paths, but definitive lines and languages settled this long ago. Even then, there is some over-the-border mincing among different but similar populations. Again, this is what made them what they are today, and it still continues. Plenty of Jewish people from Israel settled along the Caucasus there “long ago” and mingled with the settlements. Mostly keeping to themselves, the countries took them in as their own. The same thing can be said for Africans and Middle Easterners seeking refuge in the modern day. Although they are considered foreigners in specific spots, they still mingle and become natives, in spite of geographical origins.
—
In the United States, at least back then, it was populated with English ingrates and German settlers. The Africans brought over as slaves were given cultural identity as African Americans, as they knew little of where they came from. Overtime, the population mixed enough to become simply Caucasian American, but people still love to compare their partial heritages. The only difference is that American is not as much of a heritage because of being new, even if the mixing is no more prevalent than Europe.
—
You may even run into some fine folks who think that you need to know of their Irish heritage. The funny thing is that they believe that this means that they drink a lot, even if they do not. While it can be a generational thing, the magic thought required to think it is more than this is hilarious. While it is not all bad to at least acknowledge this stuff, it barely does anything to make things better.
The 10 Worst Things About Countries
10. Priority, Politics, and Economics
How a country deals with economics is a massive part of national identity and culture. Be it banking and finance, or how the political system works, there is always something different. Even if there is enough in common, places like to stand out in the worst possible ways, good reason or bad. England, Great Britain, or the United Kingdom as whole likes to use a parliamentary system of government. The United States likes to use a presidential form of democracy. One is outdated and still somehow does the job, and the other is more new and daring. There is one form of government that started it all, and the other did the same thing by invading and conquering. Even then, they are great allies, but there are always tensions between two entirely different forms of government.
—
The UK likes to praise a queen under a monarchy, but the United States decided to ditch this archaic diplomacy through war and independence. Other countries use a mixture between a republic and a monarchy, and other countries are run by elected or makeshift dictatorships. There are unitary or federation states, and there are constitutional states or unconstitutional states. Ultimately, it seems like it makes no difference, but the end results are hard to see. Some of it seems like it makes a small difference, but much of it has a large impact on world economics. Things can always be better, and some places make this exceedingly obvious.
—
World War 2 is a prime example, where there were different countries with different systems going to war. There was the fascist “socialists” going against the communists and capitalists. The war was essentially seen as necessary through the differences they found worth fighting for. This worldwide conflict ended up killing and maiming millions of people. The differences could be seen as huge, but the blight should be seen as unnecessary altogether. This led into the Cold War, where communism and “equal rights” took over Eastern Europe and Asia entirely. While this was seen as a cultural change, it felt displaced and caused more unnecessary harm.
—
The priorities a country has developed by economics and politics matters more than anything else, but everything is related. There is a relation to political ideology and how this forms to and from economics and instability. If a countries priorities are equal rights and citizenship issues, the culture will mirror it. This is the effect of having a prioritization to begin with, but not everyone agrees. Even then, what a country represents is about as important as anything else, be it big or small. All in all, the country’s priority is to maintain the union overall, even at the cost of allies. Although, this does not mean that the system of government and desire for more cannot change.
