It may depend on what you are looking for, but even then, a majority of places will barely make due. It is not to say that all of these places are all bad, but you will still have to look in the right place. If you want to survive the evening, you might find that avoiding Facebook for advice is a good start. While you can occasionally find some decent advice, the results are too risky. If you do not know any better, you may find yourself chewing wire to floss your teeth. While it seems ridiculous, there are plenty of people out there willing to sell you something stupid. Since enough people are also willing to believe it, this becomes the worst part about it. Social media as a whole is not known for the best advice, and if it is, it is all about fake news. There is something to say about Facebook and every other social media site, but it is not good. The most you will find here is what worked for them and the selfish desire for attention and likes.

2. Pinterest
Another “would be” website to list on this list is Pinterest. While the idea of sharing pins and saving them to boards is somewhat original, the advice there is lacking. There is something to consider, but if the best advice you can give is through a few words on a pin, it may be best try again. Some people on Pinterest can give genuinely good advice, i.e., well-written articles or video productions. The problem is that the diamonds of good will are surrounded by a sea of floating cynicism. At it’s best, you may be lead to a website full of great advice. At it’s worst, you can expect to be sold a line of crap with little to back it up. If you thought that product reviews and comment sections were bad, then you will be surprised.

3. Instagram
If anything, Instagram should be first on this list if it were actually in a well-defined order. While most people are not known for giving too much advice, the advice given is bad. Even if you know someone personally, you can still receive some ill-informed guidance. The last place you should look for any kind of help is social media, including Instagram. If you already have a group of friends, then social media would not be worth it anyway. For the most part, people are cruel, and the advice is vacuous. If you want to end your vapid day in a pit of flames, then going to Instagram would be a great start. The most you will find here is a bikini model sharing her newest butt picture.

Most websites have the ability for you to share videos, and this applies to most of them as well. The difference here is that YouTube is the place to go for most video-viewing online. Now do not get me wrong, YouTube is not necessarily bad, but it still has a lot of bad advice. It is the nature of being a large website with plenty of room for intentional failure. Anyone can share anything, and in a sense, it has it’s own built-in crowd. You are likely to run into a lot of shysters on this video-sharing social media site. The easy place to look for advice is online, but it is not the best place unless you know what you are doing. Unfortunately, if you are on YouTube, you probably do not know better.

If you desire a spectacle for nuance coming from people for their own selfish means, then TikTok is your place. There is literally nothing good to come from TikTok, but this is already kind of known. At this point, why would I even bother listing this website then, right? The problem is that some people do not seem to get this, and this list relies on the people taking advice, too. If you are the kind of person looking for a petty laugh or horrible shortcut to your end goal, then fine. Let’s say that you are looking for some mental help, then TikTok is the last place you should show up. If your place in space is to avoid as much stupidity as possible, then avoid this website as if it were a plague.

As you can see from most of this list, not everything is cut and dry. Most websites online are trying to make money through displaying advertisements. A lot of these advertisements are owned and distributed by Google in particular. Blog websites are like more personal versions of a YouTube channel that tend to more writing than video. Even with this push towards writing, many of these sites share through Pinterest and a desire for cash. At this point, it may seem fine, but a lot of the advice given is lazy and stupid for this reason. It may seem ironic to mention this, but there are exceptions to this, including myself.

WikiHow is one of those websites that people barely mention but permeates the entire internet. You may have even taken advice from them without even knowing it. While some of the advice is alright, some of it seems way too tongue-in-cheek for it’s own good. There is even advice given here that includes dying to avoid paying off debt. If you are missing a few bulbs or are young and impressionable, your naivety may be taken advantage of. Although the intention seems good, the advice is lacking in the most distasteful way. They even give you illustrations to help you get the point, which is in bad taste.

Now, let’s get this straight — Wikipedia is not necessarily a website that gives advice. Unfortunately, people can end up taking advice from the likes of this online encyclopedia. If you want to give it a shot, you may end up fine, but this does not make the advice any better. Even the mistake you make in the process may have ended better than if you actually did what they imply is best. While I believe that Wikipedia is getting better, there are still reasons to avoid it. They are better than they were and are better than most websites you risk reaching otherwise. It is highly edited, but the fact remains that anyone can edit this information on such a populated website. Even the doctors on this site will sell misinformation to delude the masses.

If the website is large, you have to question the motives they have, even if they seem reputable. Many of these sites desire to be large to precure affiliate marketing sponsorships. The motives can be straight from the start or created over time, be it good or bad. Some of the worst places to visit are networks like CNN and Fox News, as they are selling information with a bias in mind. News sites cannot be trusted for this very reason, as the news is often old and outdated. Even if the subject is as simple as health, you can be expected to believe at least some misinformation. They may not show it, but they want you to believe it and display it with their ignorance. While the articles listed may not be pushing advice too much, taking whatever is said at face value is advised against.

As mentioned, some places want to sell you something overtly bad or incessantly sterile. Regardless of the help you truly need, you may not be getting the help you deserve. If you need some advice, it comes at a cost that ends up making you think it’s worth it. There is someone simply giving you their point of view, but this perspective rarely counts in gold. Other people will sell you a line of crap with confidence, and this is where you need to watch out.

While Google is the main culprit, there are plenty of websites out there scheming off of their funding. All of the crap sold online comes with lies on how they can improve your life. While blogs can be bad, there are much worse places to go. I could even mention places like the dark web, but this would almost seem like a waste. Selling illegal drugs in sight of fictionalized snuff films barely qualifies in the grand scheme of things. The places to point out are right there in front of you, and they involve more than the motivation to simply cheat and steal.
