The 10 Remarkable Ways That People Butcher Language

It’s simply a matter of understanding.

Everyone, at times, finds themselves working out a rationalization to portray something that isn’t quite true OR validated. Maybe they misunderstand a word, or they may even misinterpret a sentence or remark. Of course, this problem can come down to grammar and/or a person not being able to articulate a problem out in their heads or to other people. (This can happen a lot, especially if you are an overthinker.) Thankfully, this is what learning and understanding are for, and it’s something that we should always try to partake in. It’s just unfortunate that we are often left with people misunderstanding some of the more “abstract” basics of language and interpretation. For example, words are there to explain something; therefore, definitions are acquired through an acquisition of knowledge that explains the truth of a concept. However, to make things worse, people, especially philosophers, creatively enjoy butchering the language into oblivion. So, these are these are the 10 ways that people butcher language!

Using the right kind of language helps in a lot of different ways and for a lot of different reasons.

10 Ways That People Butcher Language

1. Abstraction

People love to play with words, but they often don’t realize that most words are not meant to be vague abstractions. (These word games are often called “semantics,” and this is typically a sign of someone trying to rationalize something.) If anything, words are conceptualized facsimiles that are meant to describe reality around us without any undue cause. Some people may jerk around with words as a joke; however, this isn’t typically the meaning of playing semantical games. “Yeah, but why are words so difficult to everyone?” you politely ask. Well, it boils down to everybody’s desire to escape the truth (and/or blatant stupidity). A person can also be portraying a lie to someone else, even if their words or intentions are “true.” You see, not everyone plays abstract word games by changing around definitions, but it also comes down to a knowledge of concepts and linguistics. It doesn’t take a genius, but if the word is not meant to mean something ‘abstract,’ then the abstractions are typically doing something else.

2. Biases

It’s not always about who is more truthful, as it’s more about who is more “convincing” in an argument over another. (Although, we, as prototypical morons, love to take the wrong sides.) In fact, we’re often trying to nullify the associations that certain words have by abbreviating them into other so-called creations. It’s also that we’re simply trying to reinterpret what language represents; it also comes down to what certain words mean … . To add, it’s more about trying to understand the general outline of what someone is saying without finding needless problems with it. Of course, this is rather easy, and it’s something that people often do … for the most part. And when it comes down to it, people simple like to use certain phrases over others. But what is this phenomena called? Well, it’s ‘simply & strictly’ called an irrational bias (or preference). After all, why shouldn’t someone love to use glamorous, loving words over other words that make more sense! Maybe we want to seem nicer or smarter, but we’re also more wrong!

3. Abbreviations

Nowadays, there are a “select number” of people who entice themselves with a more open-ended and simplistic form of grammar that almost entirely breaks syntax. (You likely know who and what I am talking about.) Although, it’s not only about new age acronyms, which is something that a lot of young and dumb people love to take part in. (Believe it or not, not everyone has jumped on board this silly bandwagon.) It’s not to say it entirely ruins language, but it’s another byproduct of the long-lasting side effects of changing language for the “simpleminded” folks. Now, it’s not to say that this formidable change is not its own movement, because it most certainly is. And, at least for the most part, you’ll find that it’s the younger generations taking part in performing it. They’ll even use words like “fire,” “woke,” and other Ebonics to portray their message instead of using the correct words. Of course, it’s more a matter of taste and aggravation that this one exists, but it’s akin to letting the looneys run the looney bin!

4. Laziness

As we all know, language has a tendency to evolve, but not every evolution is necessary or correct. It’s also not going to bring us towards any kind of salvation if we decide to lambast those of us who improperly decide to make using language a fight of its own. (Although, it’s worth preserving something.) People have kind of done this before, but it’s likely the worst that it’s ever been. Back then it was a mistake, but now it’s even more of a misguided function. We also tend to use too many words by being verbose, then we decide that we should only use one word to describe a lot of different things. (People just don’t want to learn things well enough.) In the end, this essentially means that we’re being lazy when it comes to our word usage. Instead of being smart and thoughtful, we’re simply trying to find the “easiest” route there is. Of course, this goes hand in hand with the previous paragraph; however, laziness is a completely different beast from stupidity and “evolution.” In fact, we’re ALL responsible for its demise!

5. Stupidity

We’re all a part of the zeitgeist that surrounds language, but there’s more to it than that. And, as we all know, new age lingo and slang are typically what “traditional” humans like to create. Now, this can obviously come from stupidity, overthinking, or plain laziness; however, we’re all likely to blame for making some of these mistakes. Does this make them any less of a mistake though? Well, no it certainly does not! (There’s no “perfect” word or language that we can use.) You can obviously speak more on someone else’s level, but it’s also about someone else understanding you, be it with or without good OR bad grammar. You see, we can butcher language simply by listening to it or misunderstanding what someone else is saying. Of course, they may be massacring the reason of language barriers as well, but it’s what we learn from someone else that makes this even worse. Now, in spite of this, what we can do is try to change the conceptual notions in our head that tend to make OUR imperfections the ‘driving’ force.

6. Disrespect

To whom it may concern, the “ruining” of language and words can happen in both the long and short-term. (It’s simply a matter of it being ruined, and the extreme changes of the short-term can “carry over” into other long-term issues, too.) There’s even an argument that language can benefit from some deviations; however, this is not always the case. It’s also about what you butcher language with and what your intentions are (e.g., your emotions and/or illogical feelings). Hell, you can even understand an invalid’s remark simply by being smart or dumb enough to understand it. (It’s not to say that we have to be perfectly precise all of the time, but it would certainly be better if the language and our understanding of it were better.) Of course, we can take this a step further by saying that our emotional states are to blame just as much. And our intentions are always there to make situations far worse than they have to be! Although, it’s not to say that some of these confusing “ways” are not there to intentionally disrespect!!

7. Generalizations

Utilizing language, be it English or German, can be different, but it’s also ultimately the same. They can both be ruined, and the idea here is to generalize how people can misinterpret words or concepts regardless of just about anything else. And, to be honest, it mostly comes down to a ‘mental phenomena’ — it’s actually a big part of language anyway. It’s also about our intentions and the side effects (or byproducts) of our changing of the ways that we understand concepts and ideas. Now, if we actually choose to adhere to the rules of language and rules of conceptualization, then we might have a chance at making language better. (The one big caveat of this perspective is that we should also understand that language is never going to be perfect no matter what.) Although we should understand that open communication is important, it’s also exactly what can create more issues if it’s not applicably disciplined. With this in mind, it’s important to be precise without the desire to make things “too easy” to understand.

8. Creativity

Some of our “languages” fall to the foolishness of absolute nonsense more than others; however, it’s not necessarily a fault of the language. In fact, it’s mostly a matter of the people using the language — language is and was an evolution of different dialects and phonemes. (It’s something that turned into what we mostly understand today.) Undoubtedly, words can indirectly mislead us into believing the wrong things about reality. (A lack of knowledge can lead to bad language, but a lack of language can also direct you to a lack of insight.) You see, it takes time to construct an ‘understanding of language,’ and it’s something that never comes without some practice and patience. And, for better or worse, there’s even some room to believe that it required some unforced creativity to make a language what it IS today. Although, can creativity actively destroy language? Well, sure it can! Even if we’re aware of it, there’s still the question of if we’re not doing something that may portray or lead to a downfall of linguistical pursuit.

9. Combinations

We all have to follow the rules of logic that have controlled us from the start. (You can not and should not be an overt a**.) And it’s never really all that spectacular! (This can always be changed through the acquisition of knowledge, but we’re always guided within our own containers.) In fact, the more that we know, the less that we’ll likely forgive ourselves for understanding something. And, as a matter of fact, not only will it language more complicated, but it will also make it less construable. So, while you’re sitting around and playing god with words, people could be speaking, reading, or writing some kind of Spanglish! Furthermore, a lack of conceptualization leads to a particular lack of verbal skill and communication. Hell, there are even “gifted” people who struggle to understand what the truth is and was. Although, it should also be understood that verbal skill (or intelligence) is crucial to abstract categorizations. Essentially, it means that you know that what you know until you KNOW something else!!

10. Philosophy

There’s an argument about determinism that involves a little more thinking than simply acting. “What is it?” you ask. Well, it’s that we should be taking action in spite of things being determined. We can obviously understand this as an argument based on logic, and it’s regardless of our knowledge. Unfortunately, a lot of people tend to come to some of these conclusions in different ways that aren’t necessarily “thoughtful.” It also comes down to any other number of subjects that can push the boundaries of a lot of subjects: physics, philosophy, and psychology. The same can be said for consequence and how things — in spite of something being at at fault or not — will have consequences. (People do not really appreciate the mold of logic as much as an invention because of it being a tear that eats away at the fabric of selfishness and desire.) And the more that we articulate ourselves down a certain rabbit hole, the more that we’re likely to run into issues. To end, we’re guided by our LIMITATIONS!

Ending

As we all should be able to tell, there are plenty of ways that people are ruining any kind of language. (There’s also room to believe that the issue is not all that problematic.) It doesn’t matter if they’re butchering for fun or because they think that we’re making progress anyway — it’s still a problem. Of course, we should be able to understand that most people understand very little about language to begin with, and it’s simply something that their brain uses as a simple function of communication. Beyond what people think about multitasking and learning multiple languages, we can also understand how to speak and clarify better. It doesn’t matter if we’re the one talking or not, because it’s mostly about communication. Some mistakes are larger than others, and it’s not to say that it’s the end of the world! Although, we should be improving our understanding! In spite of this, a wise man once said, “We should be changing the content of nature for the betterment of civilization.” And it’s the best advice to play with!
