Not everyone is in control of what they’re dealing with or doing, but this is obviously no excuse for acting a certain way. Of course, when people exploit their own weaknesses, it’s not like they’re doing anything but explaining why it happened …! (There are obvious exceptions to this, though.) And, for what it’s worth, some things are simply beyond our ability to grasp and dictate. It is a “weakness,” and it’s very much unfortunate. However, it’s not that we cannot change, but we have little control over what is being read in our script. (We’re in control [to a limited degree] ‘beyond’ or within the determinism.) Although it’s upsetting to a lot of people, there’s little that we can do to change this; we can still do certain things to fix our behaviors. We also have to deal with the consequences of our actions, because we’re still the only ones responsible when we do something, us being in true control or not. Thankfully, to make this a little easier to understand, it’s also important to understand this: These are the 3 ways to control your impulses.
—
Impulses are, at times, intrusive thoughts that are followed by thoughtless actions; it’s similar to compulsions and/or obsessions. They can also be caused by mental illnesses as well: hoarding, compulsive masturbation, and even OCD. They also can create a lot of serious mental side effects! Of course, we shouldn’t underestimate the importance of diet and exercise, but the problem is beyond that.

The 3 Ways to Control Your Impulses
1. Stop Trying to Stop
The worst part about having impulsivity problems is the desire for it to stop! On top of that, you are up a shitty creek without being able to control it. Although, there’s also room to believe that we want to partake in things that we repeat, our behavior is typically beyond our control, at least to some degree. Of course, we all involve ourselves in our self-destructive habits. (At times, using a little bit of that old-fashioned reverse psychology can come in handy.) Yes, it means that we should “give in” to our impulses, even though we know that they’re not good for us. (Some things are recreational and fun, but other things are certainly not.) And it also means that we are willing to give our thoughts, fears, and obsessions time to breathe. Unfortunately, the forbidden “concerns” and/or thoughts that you have may also be driven by trauma and other experiences that have caused you to cope or vent improperly. It’s just too bad that people tend to improperly critique themselves and others, because it’s usually what digs their graves!

2. Consider the Consequences
Although our “compulsive” nature may create a lot of hindrances and obstructive roadblocks, we can also understand that falling into the pitfalls of impulse may not be the answer. By its very nature, it’s a bad thing! So, no matter what you do, you are stuck dealing with a problem that will never truly go away. (The more that you fight it, the more that you will fall into its dark, decrepit whims.) We all know this, but we never consider the consequences of our actions. Of course, this is not always going to obstruct us, and it should obviously not be quelling us for the “incorrect” reasons … . However, using just a little bit of forethought can get you a very long way, even if it takes some time. What this means is that you shouldn’t give up! Even though a lack of insight is a part of this so-called “issue,” seeing it as a problem to fix is also a very useful (and helpful) way to understand your problem. And, at least with a little time, you will begin to overcome some of this problem. Just be sure to know that you’re not the only one around …!

3. Ascertain Your Progress
To whom it may concern, you are just like everyone else in the sense that you struggle with a spectrum of psychological issues. Of course, you may be one of the unlucky ones who happens to have a lot more problems than the average. Not only are you creating more problems with your. In the end, you struggle should be seen as progress towards your next milestone. (It’s a useful silver lining because of its somewhat useful utility.) Even if it leads to pleasure, it doesn’t mean that we should partake in harmful behavioral impulses. It also leads to unhealthy habits that are dictated by other feelings. (There are differences; however, these differences follow a fine line.) Unless you have this nuance, you will always be taking a risk without a broad brush or stroke of luck. To make this even easier to understand, it all means that you should keep an eye (or ascertain) your personal progress. Yes, it’s never fun to always have to keep an eye on where you are; however, it’s certainly better than not having an answer to your problems!
The 3 Ways to Control Your Impulses
Conclusion
As you can obviously and clearly tell, there are PLENTY of ways to deal with your impulses. You don’t even need to call it control, because control, in a sense, is your mortal enemy. It’s also good because of the chance that it gives you to overcome other ‘personal’ problems, including your love life, psychopathy, and isolation. In fact, a wise man once said, “You need to work to change your clothes, so why not take it a step further and change yourself, too.” “Yeah, but what does this mean?” you questionably inquire. Well, it means that you have to make changes before the impulses (i.e., your uncontrollable reactions) get the best of you. Even if it takes a lot of small changes or steps in your life at first, it should not take you forever if you are putting in the consistent effort, e.g., self-acceptance, awareness, etcetera. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time — it’s never quick! For example, you can do a list of things, including the ability to ascertain why you are the way that you are. Although, to be fair, you shouldn’t do this at others’ expense!
